Celebrating Freedom, Inspiring Young Minds: WDC Marks India’s 80th Independence Day
Women Development Centre (WDC) celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day on 15 August 2026 with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour across 14 Child Friendly Space (CFS) centres—eight centres in the informal settlements of Guwahati, Kamrup Metropolitan District, and six centres in Charaideo District, Assam. The celebrations brought together children, project staff and community members in a joyful expression of national pride, unity and togetherness.
The programmes witnessed the enthusiastic participation of nearly 300 children from the CFS centres, who came together to commemorate the nation’s freedom and reflect on the values of patriotism, equality, unity and social harmony. Through a range of engaging activities, including singing, dancing, drawing and skits, the children expressed their love for the country, showcased their talents and celebrated the spirit of freedom in their own creative ways.
The CFS centres transformed into vibrant spaces of learning, creativity and collective celebration, providing children with a safe, inclusive and encouraging environment to express themselves and participate actively. The involvement of project staff and community members added warmth to the occasion, strengthening community bonds and fostering a shared commitment to children’s well-being and development.
