On 8 June 2026, the Women Development Centre (WDC) organized a Waste Management Awareness Programme at Punjabi and Telegu Colony, Morakhali Ulubari, Guwahati to promote scientific waste management practices and encourage community participation in creating a cleaner and healthier environment.
The programme was graced by Smt. Megha Hazarika, Ward Councilor of Ulubari, as the Chief Guest, along with Smt. Kajal Mashi (Booth President), Smt. Shanti Kaur (Mahila President), and Mr. Raja Singh (Joint Secretary, Gurudwara Committee). The event was attended by 3 WDC staff members, 21 CFS children, 17 youth, and 30 community members.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest explained the importance of waste segregation at source, recycling, composting, and responsible disposal practices. She encouraged every household to contribute to maintaining cleanliness and motivated residents by announcing incentives for localities that sustain a clean environment.
The interactive session enabled participants to discuss challenges related to waste disposal and seek practical guidance on segregation and collection systems. Following the awareness programme, residents organized a cleanliness drive and awareness procession with banners, demonstrating their commitment to environmental stewardship.
The initiative aimed to educate the community on proper waste segregation, promote the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (3R), encourage hygiene and cleanliness, and strengthen community participation in sustainable waste management. The programme successfully enhanced awareness, inspired positive behavioral change, and reinforced the importance of collective responsibility in building a cleaner, greener, and healthier community.
