Empowering Women to Protect the Younger Generation: WDC Collaborates with Gauhati High Court Advocates’ Association
Women Development Centre, Guwahati, in collaboration with the Gauhati High Court Advocates’ Association, organized a Legal Awareness Seminar on “Drug Abuse Prevention and Protection of the Younger Generation” on 10 October 2026 at the APWD Convention and Training Centre, Dispur, Guwahati. Held under the theme “Towards a Nasha Mukt Bharat by 2035,” the programme highlighted the urgent need for collective action to prevent substance abuse and safeguard young people.

The seminar brought together legal professionals and other dignitaries to discuss the harmful consequences of drug abuse, relevant legal provisions and the role of families and communities in addressing this growing concern. A total of 130 women from WDC’s project areas in the slums and informal settlements of Guwahati participated in the programme.
Among the dignitaries on the dais was Ms. Regina B. Sereng, Programme Manager of the WDC Agragati Project. In her address, she highlighted WDC’s programme activities and shared the concerns emerging from the team’s field-level engagement, where drug abuse had been identified as a growing and widespread problem among the younger generation. She emphasised the need for timely intervention, sustained community engagement and coordinated efforts to protect children and adolescents from the harmful effects of substance abuse.
The seminar marked a meaningful contribution towards the vision of a Nasha Mukt Bharat, strengthening the role of women and communities in protecting the younger generation and working towards a healthier and more secure future.
